Skagit Soils Inc certifies that our General Soil Mix is a tluee way soil mix
consisting of topsoil, sand and compost. Fully mixed and screened.
The compost complies with the processes, testing and standards specified in WAG 173-
350. As a member of the US Composting Councils Seal of Testing Assurance program
our compost meets the highest standards in the industry.
The sand is bank sand from several local pits that we screen through a'/4 screen before
mixing.
The topsoil is locally excavated sandy loam that we haul in from carefully inspected sites.
We have been producing this mix since 1998 with great success.

Attached are the results of the analysis performed on a soil sample that was received by our laboratory
on 4/28/2022, This sample was analyzed for nutrient levels, general chemistry, and organic content in
preparation for its use as import topsoil.
Analytical Results and Comments
The reaction of the soil is slightly alkaline at 7.2 on the pH scale, which is within the preferred range for
most plants and no pH adjustment is recommended. Qualitative lime is favorably low, indicating that the
pH is weakly buffered in the alkaline range.
Salinity (ECe) is favorably low indicated by the 0.9 dS/m reading. Sodium is safely low and the sodium
adsorption ratio (DAM) is favorably low, indicating that the soluble sodium present in this sample is
properly balanced by calcium and magnesium. Boron is safe and nutritionally adequate.
In terms of fertility, nitrogen is low and calcium is moderately low. Phosphorus, potassium, and
mMgnesium are well supplied. Potassium is particularly abundant indicating good reserve potential. In the
minor element category, copper is fair while zinc, manganese and iron are all well supplied.
Organic content is abundant at 13.3% on a dry weight basis.
Recommendations
Nitrogen, calcium, and sulfate availability could be improved at planting by incorporating 7 lbs. of
ammonium sulfate (21-0-0) and 30 lbs. of gypsum per 1000 sq. ft. to a depth of 6 to 8 inches after
placement. This would be roughly equivalent to 1/3 lb. of ammonium sulfate (21-0-0) and 1.5 lbs. of
gypsum per cu. yd. if bulk blending. Nitrogen is the most likely element required in the routine
fertilization program. For general ornamental plants, apply ammonium sulfate (21-0-0) at a rate of 5 lbs.
per 1000 sq. ft. to supply nitrogen as needed according to plant color and growth performance.
