Subject: Soil Analysis

Analytical results with comments are attached for a soil sample submitted on 1/16/2019 with a brief
summary following in this report.
Sample: Rock Ridge soil stock pile
Intended use: Construction backfill and landscape plantings
Summary of Results:
The pH 5.71 is low and should be in the range if 6.0-6.8 for general use.
The plant available calcium is very low for landscape plantings and should be in the range of 75-150
ppm.
(The pH and calcium are easily corrected with the application of ag lime)
The total nitrogen and plant available potassium are very good for landscape plantings.
Phosphorus is deficient and should be in the range of 2-4 ppm plant available for most NW plant
varieties.
Magnesium is excellent.
Overall from the chemical standpoint this soil is of fairly good quality as the deficient calcium and
phosphorus are easily corrected with proper fertilization.
From the physical standpoint this soil is gravelly sandy clay with very low total organic matter.
In addition to fertilizer amendment this soil will require organic matter to improve moisture holding
capacity and support the microbiological process. (The ideal would be to have the total organic matter
at 6-10%)
Also attached to this report is a mechanical analysis showing particle distribution.
Recommendations:
Amendments after the soil is in place at planting site
I. Apply and work in at least 2 to 3 inches of good quality compost
2. Apply ag lime (calcium carbonate 99%) at the rate of 50 lbs. per 1000 sq. ft. and work in
3. Broadcast the following fertilizer per 1000 sq. ft. prior to planting and lightly work in
12 lbs. 16-20-0
Also with any bare root or balled plants a substantial quantity of peat should be used with planting.

Sieve Series Analysis: 100% of material passed a 1/2 inch mesh; this material was then classified by particle size analysis as follows:
Note: This sample contained some fiberous wood and plant material which was
separated out as good as possible and the following mechanical analysis was conducted.

fractions should be 70 to 85% of the total and the silt/clays at 5 to 15%).
