Mike Tveter Siew L. Tan Foundation/Footing Backfill: As requested, the undersigned visited the site on 4/5/2021 to observe the footing subgrade. We met with Mr. Mike Tveter when arrived and discussed the earthwork activities that has been performed. We understand that 6 to 8 inches of structural fill has been placed on the exposed footing subgrade to protect the native soils from moisture. The structural fill consist of recycled concrete placed in 4 to 6 inch loose lift, and compacted with a Mikata compactor (see photo). Probing with a'/z-inch diameter steel rod yielded negligible penetration, indicating dense condition. We understand that nuclear density tests performed indicate low density. However, it should also be noted that the accuracy of the nuclear gauge device for density and moisture content measurements on recycled materials may be unreliable, due to their chemical compositions being different than typical earth fill. In summary, based on our field observations, the footing subgrade as noted on 4/5/2021 is considered adequate to support the design.
