Reference 26 April RFI on deck framing
The drawings indicate cutting existing rim and cantilevering deck joists,.sistering to existing. In
retrospect I think it would be easier and cleaner to simply attach a new ledger and conventional
frame the deck,see attached sketch.
The cost of a ledger, hangars and lag bolts should be more than offset by the reduced length of the
new joists and deletion of the full nailing or bolting that cantilevering would require.Cutting the
siding and flashing would be required in either scenario.
