The following excerpts are selected changes that we believe will require the most attention. Chapter 2 now includes the definitions formally found in Chapter 12,the non- residential energy code (NREC). Several definitions have been revised for clarity. 502.4.4 Recessed Light Fixtures. No changes here, but remember that all gaskets, etc. required by the fixture listing must be in place at the time of inspection. 503.2.2. Space Heating and Space Cooling System Sizing. Exception 2 has been revised to read: Natural Gas or Oil,Fire Spacing Heating Equipment whose total rating space heated output in any one dwelling unit is a. 40,000 BTU/H or less is exempt from the sizing limit. b. 1 arger than 40,000 BTU/H may exceed the 200% size limit provided that the installed equipment has an annual fuel urili7ation efficiency(AFUE) of not less than 90%. 503.10.2 Seams and Joists. All low-pressure supply and return ducts,including enclosed stud space or joist cavities/space used to transport air, shall be securely fastened and sealed with welds,gaskets,mastics (adhesives) mastic plus-embedded- fabric systems or tapes installed in accordance with the manufacturers installation I, June 12, 2001 instructions. Tapes and mastics used with rigid fiberglass shall be listed and labeled in accordance with UL 181A.Tapes and mastics used with flexible air ducts shall be listed and labeled in accordance with UL 181B. Duct tape is not permitted as a sealant in any ducts. EXCEPTION: Ducts or building cavities used for air distribution that are located entirely within the conditioned space of the building is exempt from this section. SECTION 505 LIGHTING 505.1 Lighting Controls: Hotel and motel guests rooms and guest suites shall have a master control device at the main room entry that controls all permanently installed luminaries and switched receptacles. 505.2 Lighting Power: Lighting shall comply with the prescriptive lighting option in Section 1520 or the Lighting power allowance option in Section 1530. EXCEPTIONS: 1. Group R3 occupancy in the dwelling unit portions of Group R1 occupancy. 2. Lighting exempted by Section 15.12. CHAPTER 6 Building Design by Prescriptive Requirements Approach: This chapter now applies only to wood frame structures. For metal assemblies the required installation must be uninterrupted by framing members,either inside or outside framing members to use the nominal R-values in Chapter 10. The tables of Chapter 6 now apply only to wood frame assemblies or assemblies built in accordance with Section 601.1. Other assemblies must be designed and shown to comply with code through methods in Chapter 5 component approach. CHAPTER 10,Default Heatloss Co This chapter now includes both residential and non-residential coefficients. SECTION 14.16 Completion Requirements This new section sets out requirements for building commissioning. Included are requirements for design specifications, manuals, system balancing, documentation and commissioning reports. The above is a brief list of the important changes to the Washington State Energy Code,which will be in affect July 1,2001.Copies of the Energy Code may be obtained through the Washington State Building Code Council or the Washington Association of Building Officials.
