Anacortes, WA 98221 I spoke with Ed about a week ago about a change that we want to make to our proposed remodeling plans, which I submitted a few weeks ago. We agreed that I would fax necessary information concerning the change. You should be receiving 5 pages total including this page. Specifically we want to change the steam room to a sauna room and use a sauna heater called a Tylo Combi which produces some steam or humidity along with the heat. The room would be a typical sauna made of cedar construction materials. Sauna heaters shall be protected from accidental contact by persons with a guard of material having a low thermal conductivity, such as wood. The guard shall have no substantial effect on the transfer of heat from the heater to the room. M1902.2 Installation. Sauna heaters shall be installed in accordance with the manufacturer's installation instructions. M1902.3 Combustion air.Combustion air and venting for a nondirect vent-type heater shall be provided in accordance with Chapters 17 and 18,respectively. M1902.4 Controls. Sauna heaters shall be equipped with a thermostat that will Limit room temperature to not greater than 194°F(90°C). Where the thermostat is not an integral part of the heater, the heat-sensing element shall be located within 6 inches(152 mm)of the ceiling. SECTION G2440 (615) SAUNA HEATERS G2440.1 (615.1)General.Sauna heaters shall be installed in accordance with the manufacturer's installation instructions. G2440.2(615.2)Location and protection. Sauna heaters shall be located so as to minimize the possibility of accidental contact by a person in the room. G2440.2.1 (615.2.1)Guards. Sauna heaters shall be protected from accidental contact by an approved guard or barrier of material having a low coefficient of thermal conductivity. The guard shall not substantially affect the transfer of heat from the heater to the room. G2440.3(615.3)Access. Panels, grilles and access doors that are required to be removed for normal servicing operations, shall not be attached to the building. G2440.4(615.4)Combustion and dilution air intakes. Sauna heaters of other than the direct-vent type shall be installed with the draft hood and combustion air intake located outside the sauna room. Where the combustion air inlet and the draft hood are in a dressing room adjacent to the sauna room,there shall he provisions to prevent physically blocking the combustion air inlet and the draft hood inlet, and to prevent physical contact with the draft hood and vent assembly,or warning notices shall be posted to avoid such contact. Combustion air shall not be taken from inside the sauna room.
