Residential Prescriptive(Chapter 6) Options for Zone 1

Instructions:
1) Carefully review the requirements of each of the options below. Choose an option that best suits your
dwelling design. Glazing percentage typically determines which option tachoose. Your building must
match the selected option requirements•without exceptions or substitutions.
2) Check V the 0 above the requirements of your option. Disregard components or equipment that do
not apply to your project. Your permit will be processed more efficiently if you provide all of the
requested infromation. Department staff can help you with general questions about this form.
Can't Comply?: If none of the Prescriptive (Chapter 6) options are acceptable, consider the Component
Performance (Chapters) Approach. The main advantage is flexibility tojuggieindividual R and U-values as
long as.an overall maximum'valueisn't exceeded. Note that the Component Performance requirements:are
no less stringent than the Prescriptive requirements: Calculations maybe performed•with a 1994 WSEC
Chapter 5 Residential Qualification-Perm, or by using an acceptable computer program such as WATTSUN.

1994 WSEC Residential Design Heat Load Form
Instructions:
A. The following steps will determine the maximum heating system size:
1. Structural loss. value (1): May be taken directly from the Proposed UA box on Page 2.
2. Air leakage loss. Value (2). This is the volume (Ft3) of the conditioned space in the dwelling
3. Duct Loss. value (3) Insert value from BTU/HR, Box (a).Climate Factor.
4. AT: The local ASHRAE climate factor is °F for your jurisdiction
To determine AT: (AT= the temperature difference between Outdoor design temperature and
Indoor Design Temperature). The heating or cooling Outdoor Design Temperatures shall be
selected from 0.6% column for winter and 0.5% column for summer from the Puget Sound
Chapter of ASHRAE publication "Recommended Outdoor Design Temperatures. Washington
State. ASHRAE.). Indoor Design Temperature shall be 70 °F for heating and 78°F for cooling.
Example: For Elma, WA.-Winter
Indoor Design Temperature =70°F
Outdoor Design Temperature =24°F
...so... (70°F)-(24(1F) = 46 AT
5. Calculate values a, b. and c by multiplying the numbers in each horizontal row.
6. Add values a, b, and c.
7. Multiply the sum from Step#6 by 1.5 to obtain the maximum heating system output for the building.
8. If the heating system is electric, divide the BTU/hr. value from Step #7 by 3413 to get kWatt output.

Your Plan Reviewer will check the circles in the 'Compliance Required' column, and the field inspector

Ventilation Requirements for Indoor Air Quality The Ventilation and Indoor Air
Quality Code (VIAQ) requires that residences be equipped with a means of exhausting pollutants from specific
locations. The VIAQ also requires the introduction of fresh air into bedrooms and other habitable spaces.
