Minutes of Septemer18, 2017
PRESENT
Dave Duck, Jim English,Nick Alphin, Judy Weathers, and Diane Munce.
CALL TO ORDER
Dave called the meeting to order at 10:03 a.m.
VISITOR-STAFF INTRODUCTIONS
Mayor Laurie Gere and Emily Schuh from the City of Anacortes and the administrative team from
the library; Jeff, Gina, Diana and Leslie
PETITIONS TO THE CHAIR
None.
ADOPTIONS/CHANGES TO AGENDA & AGENDA ADOPTION
The Mayor was moved to the top of the agenda
MAYOR'S REPORT
• The two Library Board of Trustees replacements will be sought immediately, and
targeted to be selected by November 18 for the state training.
• The resignation of Director Sheri Milaski was announced.
• Staff replacements will begin with the Administrative Assistant, followed by the
Library Assistant position. The search for the Director's position will begin in
January 2018.
LIBRARY REPORTS
Facility
• Meeting room will be unavailable starting on October 9th to upgrade the space.
Technology:
• Current funding will run out if Hoopla continues to be so popular.
Library Foundation update:
• The Foundation will continue with their golfing fundraiser, Links at the Library" scheduled
for the night of September 30. They have been working diligently to obtain sponsors for
holes. Sunday will be a free event for families
Library Staff
• Jeff and Gina will be attending an Overdrive Media collection-development meeting. Youth
Services reported that attendance at summer programs was around 5,000. The number of those
finishing Summer Reading Program was up 62% since last year. "Meet the Astronaut"with
Captain Wendy Lawrence is an upcoming youth program to be held at Brodniak Hall. Comic
night will be Nov 16.
• Jeff and Diana will be presenting the budget at the City Council Meeting on Monday,
September 25.

ADULT PROGRAMMING AND PUBLICITY COMMITTEE

UPDATES
FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY
• A financial report was provided.
REVIEW OF BOARD CALENDAR
• September 25 is library budget presentation at City Council
• October 18 is staff retreat and the library will be closed. Board will provide Pizza.
ADJOURNMENT
The meeting adjourned at 11:10 a.m.
The next regular meeting of the Anacortes Public Library Board will take place on Monday,
October 16, at 10:00 a.m. in the library at 1220 10th Street.
