Minutes of July 17, 2017
PRESENT
Jim English,Nick Alphin, Judy Weathers, and Diane Munce.
CALL TO ORDER
Dave called the meeting to order at 10:03 a.m.
VISITOR-STAFF INTRODUCTIONS
Sheri Miklaski, Library Director
PETITIONS TO THE CHAIR
None.
APPROVE PREVIOUS MEETING MINUTES
Approval of minutes postponed to August meeting
ADOPTIONS/CHANGES TO AGENDA & AGENDA ADOPTION
None.
APPROVAL OF BILLS
Diane had checked the bills.
FINANCIAL REPORT
• Sheri reported that the expenditures were right on target with the budget.
DIRECTOR'S REPORT
Recent and upcoming events
• Summer Reading is going great! 502 kids and 27 adults have signed up so far!
• Jeff and Diana attended the American Library Association conference in Chicago from
June 23 —27 and came back energized and full of ideas.
• Northwest Corner Library Director meeting on Orcas on June 30th was cancelled due to
busy calendars on all fronts.
• Sheri attended the statewide Library Director meeting at the Dumas Bay Center in Federal
Way on July 13 & 14.
Facility
• Sheet rock up in the library storage room.
• Comcast installed a cable box in the meeting room. We will be able to hold viewing parties
of events in the future if we would like.
• Meeting room AV will be redone in October.
Technology:
• RB Digital (formerly One Click Digital)went live July 1st! Some hiccups in the early
adoption(on the vendor's end).
Art Committee
• Independence by Michael Stark has not been hung yet.
Manieri update:
• Second Sunday series at the Heart of Anacortes through September with Bellingham
Dixieland All Stars performing on August 13th
• The Manieri Endowment will be underwriting the Jazz Stage at the Arts Festival again this
year.
• Library will be hosting the Gypsy jazz violin and guitar workshop with Pearl Django again
on Saturday, August 5th
Maritime update:
• The October lecture date may be moved or cancelled to due meeting room work.
Strategic Plan Update
• RFP for new library logo, rebranding and marketing was published on July 6th and closes
on July 20th
Family Place Library Update
• No new update.
Upcoming Library Closures:
• Labor Day— September 2—4—the floors and carpets are cleaned at this time.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
LIBRARY ART COMMITTEE
• Independence by Michael Stark has not been hung yet.
ADULT PROGRAMMING AND PUBLICITY COMMITTEE
• Programs almost set for fall
MANIERI COMMITTEE

MARITIME
• See director's report.
UPDATES
LIBRARY STAFF
• Selah Bauer, who comes to us from the City of Valdez,joins us today, Monday, July 17th
• Library Staff meeting will be on Thursday, July 22na
• Many staff attending First Aid trainings/recertification this year.
FRIENDS UPDATE
• Friends met on Tuesday, June 8th at 2:00pm. They will meet again in September. A new
FriendShop volunteer attended the meeting.
LIBRARY FOUNDATION
• Foundation fundraising committee met on June 6th meeting to discuss Links @ the Library:
A mini golf experience.
• Wall tiles look great! We are starting a batch for the next grouping of 6 bricks.
• Foundation next meets on Tuesday, June 20th
PASSPORT PROCESSING
• No report.
FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY
• A financial report was provided.
REVIEW OF BOARD CALENDAR
• The annual Board social is July 20
• Interviews for Board replacements will probably take place in November
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
• Board Social details were worked out

The next regular meeting of the Anacortes Public Library Board will take place on Monday,
August 21, at 10:00 a.m. in the library at 1220 loth Street.
