HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOR-2020-Elevator Shaft Correction Notice - XQ 0:7 .(r.,c'3 Elevator Shaft Correction Notice dated 2/19/2020 clarification for building permit# BLD-2019-0378 1. Strap top plates that break closer than 4' apart. Please see 2015 IBC Table 2304.10.1 (Fastening Schedule) element 13 which states that each side of the end joint,face nail 8-16d common nails or 12-10d box nails with a minimum of 24"lap splice length on each side of end joint. 2. Nail multiple studs together with 2-16d nails at 12" o. c. (on center). Please see 2015 IBC Table 2304.10.1 (Fastening Schedule) element 8 and 9 or talk with your engineer. 3. Need positive connection on posts to beams throughout the shaft and elsewhere. Please install connectors or other devices to achieve this positive connection in accordance with 2015 IBC 2304.10 or talk with your engineer. 4. Need nail plate to connect top plates that don't overlap throughout shaft. Perpendicular walls adjacent to each other are supposed to have the top plates connected per 2015 IBC Table 2304.10.1 (Fastening Schedule) element 18 or talk with your engineer. 5. Install anchor bolt on sill plate of elevator shaft at door opening to be between 4 3/8" and 12" from the end. The anchor bolt near the door opening on the 15t floor is too close to the end of the wood. Please provide and install anchor bolt in accordance with 2015 IBC Table 2308.3 or talk with your engineer. 6. Nail elevator blocking throughout whole length on both sides to avoid hinge joints. Some blocks show nails at the bottom and not the full length of the block and others'cannot be verified easily. The rule of thumb is that the number of nails put in a block of header is 2 nails in a box pattern for a total amount of nails equal to the nominal depth,for instance a 4x4 block would have a total of 4 nails, 4x6 would have 6 nails, 4x8 would have 8 nails and so on. Please see 2015 IBC Table 2304.10.1 (Fastening Schedule) or talk with your engineer. 7. Add connectors at beam to beam, to create a positive connection. Beams need to connect to other beams with connectors and not just nails, especially if the top plates don't overlap. Please see 2015 IBC 2304.10 or talk with your engineer. 8. Fix over-notched studs. Studs are only allowed to be cut to a depth specified by 2015 IBC 2308.5.9 or notched in accordance with 2015 IBC 2308.5.10. If you have any question in our understanding of this code please talk with your engineer. 5-,ee, Gti;� d kw 9. Connect interior walls of elevators together with 2-16d nails 12" o. c. (on center). Please see 2015 IBC Table 2304.10.1 (Fastening Schedule) element 9 or talk with your engineer. 10. Connect beams to top plates and king studs per code. Please see 2015 IBC 2304.10 and Table 2304.10.1 (Fastening Schedule) or talk with your engineer. 11. Tighten hold-down nut on bolt in elevator shaft and elsewhere. Hold-downs require that the nut is tight to the base of the hold-down to work properly. Please talk with your engineer if you have any concerns or questions about this.
