HomeMy WebLinkAbout2019-11-19 City Council Minutes Approved City Council Minutes—November 19,2019 At 6:00 p.m. Mayor Laurie Gere called to order an advertised Special Joint Meeting of the Anacortes City Council and the Fidalgo Pool&Fitness Center Board of Commissioners. The assembly joined in the Pledge of Allegiance. Councilmembers Eric Johnson, Carolyn Moulton,Brad Adams,Ryan Walters and Matt Miller were present. Councilmembers Anthony Young and Bruce McDougall were absent. Pool Commissioners Jeremy McNett,David Way,Ken Hansen, Christine Mathes and Andrew Olson were present. The elected officials were joined by Anacortes Parks &Recreation Director Jonn Lunsford,Pool Executive Director Mitch Everton,Anacortes Planning Director Don Measamer, and Marc Estvold. Mayor Gere said the purpose of the meeting was to conduct a joint discussion of a path forward to create a community campus to serve residents aged 0 to 100 with a pool, a teen center,the Boys and Girls Club, a regulation sized gymnasium and the existing senior center. The commissioners presented the Board's goals for a new pool facility. Mr. Lunsford presented the city's goals for a community center. Mr. Estvold suggested forming a subcommittee including Board and Council representation,with possible involvement by the Anacortes School District and other stakeholders,to explore potential collaboration. Councilmembers, Commissioners and staff shared their thoughts on the shared goals, work done to date by each body, and possible paths forward. Several members of the public shared their comments as well. Councilmember Anthony Young joined the meeting at 7:03 p.m. There being no further business,at approximately 7:06 p.m. the Anacortes City Council special meeting of November 19,2019 was adjourned.
