Attached are the results of the analysis performed on a soil sample that was received by our laboratory
on July 12, 2018. This sample was analyzed for nutrient levels and general chemistry in preparation for
use as an import soil.
Analytical Results:
The reaction of the soil is slightly alkaline at 7.3 on the pH scale, which is suitable for a broad range of
plants and no pH adjustment is recommended. Qualitative lime is favorably low, indicating that the soil is
weakly buffered against downward pH changes.
Salinity (ECe) is safely low. The favorably low sodium adsorption ratio (SAR) indicates that the sodium in
this sample is properly balanced by calcium and magnesium. Boron is safely low, yet sufficient for plant
nutrition.
Nitrogen is low and potassium is abundant. The remaining major and minor elements are in their
respective sufficiency ranges.
The texture of the soil is classified as'gravelly loamy sand' based off the USDA soil classification
standards in all samples. Gravel larger than 2.0 mm comprises 18.2% of the soil by dry weight and in
combination with the wide distribution in particle sizes in the sand category indicates that this soil will
have a tendency to consolidate and compact. The average estimated water infiltration rate is 0.27 inches
per hour. The actual rate of infiltration may vary with the degree of soil compaction. Organic content is
high measured at 13.3% by total dry weight.
Comments
The chemistry and fertility of this material is favorable and will support a broad range of plants.
Nitrogen and calcium availability could be improved by incorporating 7 lbs. of calcium nitrate (15.5-0-0)
per 1000 sq. ft. to a depth of 6 inches after the material is in place. This would be roughly equivalent to
1/3 lb. of calcium nitrate per cu. yd. if bulk blending. No additional organic material is recommended. The
sandy nature of this soil makes it suitable for use over most native soils.
