City Council Minutes—June 8, 2009

At 7:30 p.m. Mayor Maxwell convened the continued meeting of June 1, 2009 to order. Roll call
found present: Kevin McKeown, Nick Petrish, Erica Pickett, Brad Adams, Bill Turner, Cynthia
Richardson and Brian Geer. Roll call was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
The purpose of the continued meeting was to address:
Approve Bid Award for Commercial Avenue Roundabout
Mr. Fred Buckenmeyer, Public Works Director, presented a request for Council to consider bids
for the Commercial Avenue/SR20 Spur Roundabout Project. Mr. Buckenmeyer pointed out that
this project will improve safety, increase traffic flow, and provide a Gateway Entrance to the City.
Bids were opened on June 4, 2009 with SRV Construction, Inc. as the apparent low bidder. Staff
recommends that the project be awarded to SRV Construction, Inc. in the amount of$918,144.75
including sales tax. It was so moved and seconded. The vote was unanimous.
Consideration of Bids for"L District Sewer Line Rehabilitation Project
Mr. Fred Buckenmeyer, Public Works Director, presented a request for Council to consider bids
for the "L" District Sewer Line Rehabilitation Project; this is the second of a 3-year process that
will completely rehabilitate our sanitary sewer "L" Basin located in the Commercial District. Bids
were opened on June 4, 2009 with Strandberg Construction as the apparent low bidder. Staff
recommends that the project be awarded to Strandberg Construction, Inc. in the amount of
$314,299.36 including sales tax. It was so moved and seconded. The vote was unanimous.
There being no further business, at approximately 7:50 p.m. the continued meeting of June 1,
2009 was adjourned.
The Council then convened in Study Session to hear the following reports: (1) School District
Update/Chris Borgen; (2) Scott Paper Mill Clean Up Action/Port of Anacortes; and (3)San Juan
Passage/Guemes Channel Trail — Restoration/Landscaping Plan for NGPE.
