City Councilmembers Eric Johnson, Ryan Walters, Erica Pickett, Brad Adams, Liz Lovelett and John Archibald were present. Matt Miller was absent. Contract Award: Guemes Channel Trail Project 13-016-TRN-002 (Action). Public Works Director Fred Buckenmeyer requested Council approval of award of a contract for construction of the next segment, approximately 4000 feet, of the Guemes Channel Trail. He reported that at the bid opening on September 5, 2014 five bids were received with the low bid from Strandberg Excavation & Commercial Construction, Inc. in the amount of$595,113, below the Engineer's Estimate of $695,823. Mr. Buckenmeyer advised that the project was awaiting one last permit from the Corps of Engineers. He recommended authorizing the mayor, at her discretion, to execute a contract with Strandberg for$595,113. He added that the contract would be entirely funded by a grant from the Department of Commerce. Mr. Walters moved, seconded by Ms. Lovelett, to authorize the mayor, at her discretion, to execute a contract with Strandberg Construction in the amount of$595,113 to construct Segment VII of the Guemes Channel Trail. In response to a question from Mr. Johnson, Mr. Buckenmeyer explained the spread in the bids and added that staff had verified the bid with the contractor. Mr. Walters thanked the 40th District legislative delegation for the funding. Vote: Ayes—Johnson, Walters, Pickett, Adams, Lovelett and Archibald. Motion carried. There being no further business, at approximately 7:05 p.m. the continued Anacortes City Council meeting of September 2, 2014 was adjourned. Anacortes City Council Minutes September 8, 2014 1
