In response to your email:
1. We accept the most current edition of NFPA for sprinklers and alarms. The minimum
would be the edition year listed in the IFC/IBC-2006 edition.
2. By prior approval do you mean prior to submittal to Anacortes? If the State Fire Marshal
is required to review because of medicare reimbursement compliance, then we would
appreciate seeing their comments as part of your Anacortes submittal. Architect of
Record sign-off also applies.
3. Four sets would be appreciated, and half size will work, providing all type fonts are
legible without magnification devices.
4. We haven't required EQ calculations, however structural pipe point-loading calculations,
approved by the engineer/architect of record are required.
5. Name of owner and project are all we usually require along with sprinkler designer cert
level stamp and signature.
6. NFPA requirements for PSI buffers are expected. However the water in the area should
be good. We would request you perform actual fire flow for this project. Contact city
water department for permission to flow water. City does not provide flow information due
to potential liabilities of out dated data.
7. Back flow device information can be obtained from bldg dept. We will accept either vault
or riser room location of devices. All devices require post installation recertification
testing. Remote read meters are required, contact bldg dept.
8. We prefer remote FDCs with 5" storz couplings. Generally near the property line. We
are flexible and will consult with you on location options. Yard PIVs and required
whenever possible. Location same as FDCs-we're flexible. Wrapped galvanized piping
okay. Check valve at the riser with ball drip at the FDC base. FDCs are required on 13
and 13 R systems.
9. If there is a dedicated riser room with direct exterior access, separated with one hour
walls, then wall PIV may be acceptable. 30-36 inches above finished grade for PIVs and
FDCs.
to. We accept either riser mounted combination main drain/inspector test or remote
inspection valves for wet systems.
11. Shot-gun riser is acceptable.
12. Either water or electric water flow bells accepted.
13. We prefer garages to be sprinklered in 13D systems if risers are in the garage. Garage
heat to 45 degrees or warmer is also required .
14. We prefer all attic pipe runs to be tented above, so heat from heated space below can
infiltrate the pipe space.
15. Stainless steel supply piping at the footing foundation wall is acceptable. We prefer
ductile iron for the main runs.
16. Epoxy coated fittings are acceptable to fire however, our utility inspectors and water dept
may have input depending and whether the supply run is before or after the backflow
device. They will want to comment on requirements for cathotic protection if the piping is

before the back flow device.
17. The water dept will advise you on what they require for you to perform flow testing, as
well as any chlorination flush and testing processes. Fire requires witnessing of the
hydro and final velocity flush testing. Pipe install is inspected by engineering inspector.
18. Elevator sprinkler requirements are deferred to L&I elevator folks.
19. All standpipes are per IFC and NFPA design requirements. We calculate basic fire pump
operations for 150 PSI at the FDC with 100 PSI at the remote end of the hose nozzle.
20. Canopies over balconies which have BBQs or are enclosed on two or more sides require
protection.
21. T.I projects once a completed and compliant system has been installed are evaluated on
a case by case basis. However,,. Permit and T.I plans are usually required.
22. Any upgrading of existing compartments should be fully completed to meet current code
requirements so compartment system performance reliability can be expected.
