SMOKE DETECTORS The electrician has questioned note 114 of the Fire Alamo System Notes on Sheet E-8 of the drawings;copy attached). After review of the files, I noted that I mistuiderstood the City's letter of June S, 1996, page 8, item #7D (copy attached). The drawings indicated that smoke detectors be attached to the fire alann, while berth the City's letter and UFC 1007.2.9.2 (copy attached) indicate that the smokes NOT be attached to the fire alarm. The Arcltitect wishes to modify the permit set as follows (Sheet E-8 -Fire Alarm System Notes#4): i "4. Notes on Sheet E8 specifies fire alarm system as bidder design. These notes are y offered. A. Pull stations mounted between 36 inches and 54 inches UFC 1007.2.12.9.3, WAC 51-30, Section 1106.15.3. B. Provide pull stations at all exits, UPC 1007.3.3.1. C. Provide a permanent, durable graphic floor plan display that provides delineation according to type of alarm. D. UFC, Section 1007.2.9.2 requires that single station smoke detectors are not connected to the fire alarm system. To meet the intent of the code and provide for alarm notification to the fire department. The smoke detectors in the dwelling units may be connected to the F.A.C.P. with a four minute delay, allowing staff to investigate and reset the alarm. If the alarm is not reset within this designated period the F.A.C.P. would send an alarm to the central station. Also, place the F.A.C.P. in a nearby office and only the graphic enunciator shall be in the front lobby. E. Provide cut sheets on F.A.C.P., S.D.s, P.S.s, H.D.s, magnetic hold open devices, horn strobes. Provide battery calculations and drawings, details and description of the graphic enunciator. Call out mounting heights for the horn strokes. WAC 51-30, Section 1106.15.2. F. Visible alarms shall be placed at a maximum 50 feet intervals in corridors and hallways. WAC 51-30, Section 1106.15.2. TOIST BORING As per our phone conversation, one of the subcontractors bore approximately 5 - 1" diameter holes in several joists in the living units. After discussion with the Engineer of Record,Dean Wilson PE,the jobsite was instructed to place an additional 2x10 adjacent to the damaged 2x10 and combine nail them together. The jobsite requested further clarification on hole boring. Using UBC 2326.8.3 as a starting point,boring shall not be within 2 inches of top of bottom of joist and shall not exceed t/ of depth (2 1/a" diameter max.). Additionally 24 inches of joist must occur before any additional boring can occur. The structural drawings indicate `plywood' for shear purposes. A substitution of oriented strand board (OSB) is requested.
