Board of Trustees Attendees: Alethea Fleming, Jhana Shimizu, Courtney Orrock (remote)
Absent: Briana Alzola Lindquist, Mike VanQuickenborne
Library Attendees: Jeff Vogel, Trish Wilson, Diana Farnsworth, Cheryl Neuwirth
Absent: Sydney Brady, Stacy Paull, Michelle Hanna
Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 9:03 a.m. by Alethea
Approval of Minutes
Minutes from the June 2025 meeting were approved. Motion for approval by Courtney, second
by Alethea.
Manager Updates
Trish
• 119 adults signed up for Summer Reading vs 54 last year
• Fun Friday attendance is increasing but varies program to program
• Staff to be given outreach opportunities; list emailed to Board 7/23/25
• Helping to process STEAM backpacks
• Summer quiet for adult new releases; adult new releases expected in the fall
Jeff
• Teen area - final inspection was supposed to be 7/11/25
• Punch list being worked through
• August 5 shelving to be put in
• Budget for Teen Space was $246K; to-date $272K (Foundation budgeted $280 - 290K)
Diana
• Teen Programs - 40 signed up for Summer Reading; 6-10 attending programs
Jeff
• Budget retreat - budget will be tight/flat
• City hopes to generate revenue from fiber; 2027 projected revenue from fiber $130K
• Sales tax revenue down so need new ways to generate revenue
• FEMA $ is in WA
• Consortium and RFID funding in question
• RFID Envisionware support ending this year; definitely moving away from Envisionware
• Planning and Finance city subcommittees seem to carry more weight
• Library subcommittee members - TJ, Amanda, Bruce

Friends
• Book sale 7/26/25
• July 50 cent sale - psychology
• August 50 cent sale - TV & Music (books only)
• Need a permanent holder for the banner flag
• September/October fundraising planned
• Lesley Blaser no longer of FOL Board
Foundation
• Fundraiser at $6,801 + $20K matching funds as of 7/14/25
• Plan to promote the fundraiser at a table at the Farmers Market with Library and FOL
Manieri
• Arts Festival coming up; Farmers Market performances well received
New Business
Social Media Policy
• Policy has been in the works for a while
• Recent comments on the Library posts highlight importance of policy
• Strike “child”, “true”, and “decisions to restrict access to remove content are subject to
administrative review”, “refrain from engaging in personal discussions on behalf of the library”
• Diana will update and get us new draft
• Vote on at the August meeting
The meeting was adjourned by Alethea at 9:52 a.m.
