Alliance Living Community of Anacortes
Dear Mr. Fey:
We have reviewed your request dated May 11, 1999, for the 15-second delay exception, see letter
dated March 25, 1999, for the gates within the Alliance Living Community of Anacortes. Your
request is approved based on the following conditions.
1. The special egress control device shall be listed for exterior use.
2. The special egress control device shall automatically release upon activation of either the
sprinkler system or the fire alarm system.
3. The special egress control devices shall automatically deactivate upon loss of electrical
power to any of the following:
3.1) The egress control device
3.2) The smoke detection system
3.3) Means of egress illumination
Please submit manufactures component specifications for review and approval. If you have any
further questions,please contact me at(360)293-1901.

Dear Mr. Measamer.
We've just received a response from the State Fire Marshal's office regarding the locks at
proposed gates for this project. 1f you'll recall,our March 25, 1949 letter requested an
exception from the 15-second delay mechanism activated by pressing a panic bar.
According;to her May 10, 1999 response, the State Fire Marshal has appiovcd such an
exception provided we comply with stipulations set forth in the letter.
I understand that the Fire Marshal's approval is only one step in the prneese, and that
both your office and Anacortes Fire Chief must approve such an exception. We are in the
process of assembling a submittal package of component pacts stud the system design. I
will have these materials to your office within the next two days.
