Dear Mr. Measagwr: I
Wage find the attached permit application for alteration of tonTle
drops for chain broiler coverage.. i
Tt is my opinion, after conferring with Kevin Si Or of Ann& , Inc, , that
t_hp original installation wag not properly aligned, with the appliance
and the wrung nozzles were installe&
i
Mr, Si.Ter has .suggested that T mova the nozzles up to 2fi" above the i
chain broiler, the maximum allowed in their design manual , l wilt atwo
Change the nozzle type to conform with their installation manual .
Due to the amount of heat generated by this; appliance T do not believe !
this will be a total resolution to the nozzle pingging problem, but it
should help.
This nozzle change however will have n , effect: on thr: plemam area above
the eha,in broiIPr. The: heavy accumulation of exhaust grease is not all
Ansu9 design problem but does have the possibility of greatly inbibihing
t. roper operation of the fire Topr ssion system Should it discharge.

NOZZLE PLACEMENT REQUIREMENTS (Continued)
Overhead Chain Broiler Protection .i
When overhead protection is used, the nozzles must be cen-
The R-102 system uses two i W Nozzles(Part No. 419336) for tered above the exhaust opening within 4 to 8 in. (10 to 20 cm)
overhead chain broiler protection. The nozzle tip is stamped with of each other and they must be located 10 to 26 in. (25 to 66
1 W,indicating that this is a one-flow nozzle and must be counted cm) above the top of the broiler surface. See Figure 48.
as one flow number.
i
Overhead protection is only available for chain broilers with y 4-6 IN.110-20 mq
exhaust opening dimensions that are not less than 60% of the
internal broiler length and not less than 60% of the internal

broiler width, to a min 30.5 x 30.5( 266 N,imum size of 12 in. x 12 in. a26 is
cm). internal broiler size can not be larger than 32 in. x 34 in.
(81 x 86 cm),

Example No. 1 - Internal broiler size Is 24 in. long x 20 in.
wide (61 x 51 cm), with an opening of 16 in. x 16 ,.,, 'r MINMUM 6 c9
in. (40.6 x 40.6 cm). 12 IN.13o.s cm1
To determine minimum opening size, multiply the MINIMUM
internal length and the internal width by 0.6:
Length of opening - 24 in.x 0.6 = 14.4 in. (61 cm
x 0.6 = 36.6 cm) MAXIMUM INTERNAL
Width of o enin BROILER SIZE
p g - 20 in. x 0.6 = 12.0 in. (51 cm 32 x 34 IN.
x 0.6 = 30.5 cm) (67 *es C.)
The minimum allowable opening for overhead pro-
tection would be 14.4 in.x 12.0 in. (36.6 x 30.5 cm). FIGURE 48
This example would be acceptable for overhead The nozzles may vary in position as long as they are evenly
protection, spaced from the exhaust center and are always 1800 opposite
Example No. 2 - Internal broiler size is 30 in. long x 24 in. of each other. If the opening is not square, the nozzles must
wide(76 x 61 cm)with an opening of22 in. x 12 in. be positioned along the centerline, parallel to the longest sido
(56 x 30 cm). of the opening. See Figure 49.
To determine minimum opening size, multiply
internal length and Internal width by 0.6:
Length of opening - 30 in.x 0.6 = 18.0 in.(76 cm
x 0.6 = 45.7 cm)
Width of opening - 24 in. x 0.6.= 14.4 in. (61 cm -0'tv
x 0.6 = 36.6 cm) ja
Minimum allowable opening for overhead protection
would be 18 in. x 14.4 in. (45.7 x 36.6 cm).
Because this broiler has an opening of 22 in. x 12
in.,the 12 in.width is below the minimum allowable
calculated dimension of 14.4 in.(36.6 cm)and there- TOP VIEWTOP view
fore would not be acceptable for overhead
protection. FIGURE 49
