Disconnect electrical from dispensers and power panel. Electrician to verify safety with electrical meter. 2. Disconnect dispensers from piping and remove from island. Remove existing gasoline from pipe lines with pump and return gas to tanks. Blow compressed air through lines to evacuate any vapors. Test with explosion meter. 3. Demolish concrete surfacing and remove from site. 4. Excavate new pipe trenches. Excavate trenches near old pipe runs by hand using care note to create spark. 5. Cut out sections of existing pipe as needed for installation of replacement piping. Drain and cap remaining portions per state requirements. 6_ Install new piping and terminate with test gear. 7. Apply air pressure to pipes and inspect per manufacturers spec's. 8. Upon inspection by Fire dept. cover pipe portions as needed for concrete replacement. 9. Disconnect power, and verify, to turbines. 10. Remove existing turbines for the installation of sumps. Cap or plug tank opening during this work. 11. Install turbines and connect pipe lines. 12. Retest pipes with air and inspect. 13. Install line leak detection devices upon completion and test performance. 14. Pour concrete and install dispensers on islands. Visually inspect piping connections at both turbine sumps and dispensers sumps. Verify with Fire dept. 15. Fire dept sign-off. A bed of pea gravel or clean sand, at a minimum of four inches deep. should be uniformly spread along the bottom of the trench from the dispenser sumps to the piping chamber sump located at the tank. The piping slope from the dispenser sumps to the piping chamber sumps should conform to NFPA 30 recommendations of a minimum of 1/8 inch per foot. The piping trenches should be wide enough to accommodate all runs of pipe to be installed, allowing a minimum of four inches between each pipe and six inches on either side. In the event a piping crossover is required. the bottom pipe should be protected by at least 4 inches of pea gravel or �- clean sand. \ \\ Piping Installation Unroll and lay the piping beside the piping trench. In the unlikely event that \ \ the piping kinks during unpacking installation handling, it will not affect the integrity or performance of the piping. \� ® The piping may have a tendency to retain its coiled memory. Air testing can also be done at this point to check for shipping damage. Lift the piping into the piping trench and push it through the flexible entry boots in all sumps throughout the system. Flexible Entry Boots Flexible entry boots are available in two sizes, one for Poly-Tech D and one ® for Poly-Tech SC. Flexible entry boots are also available in a variety of sizes for piping and conduit. Flexible entry boots provide a water tight seal at dispenser sumps, intermediate sumps and piping chamber sumps. Close the unit, and screw the handle down until tight, causing the trimming '- blades to bite into the secondary containment jacket. Turn the handle 90 degrees,then rotate 180 degrees in the opposite direction to make a complete 360 degree cut in the jacket. _ _ I Unscrew the handles to loosen the jaws of the stripping tool, and remove it from the pipe. Grasp the cut end of the secondary containment jacket firmly and give it a sharp twist to break it free, then slide it off the end of the pipe. Cut �� L away the thin film which lies between the primary pipe and secondary jacket. Slide the secondary containment test boots over the end of each piping run until the boot overlaps the seconds containment jacket. After the secondary testing on all the piping runs has been completed, relieve the air pressure on all the piping runs and slide the boots forward on the primary pipe away from the secondary containment jackets. pQLY-TE Installing Fittings and CH -�--~� Testing Primary f Fitting Installation Connections made at the beginning and end of each piping run are accomplished by the insertion of a male or female hose shank connector into 9the end of the flexible piping. These fittings are constructed of high quality U.N.S. 360 brass and are designed to swivel for ease of installation. A two piece clamp is then installed and tightened with four corrosion resistant nuts and bolts. No special tools are required. The system design does not allow for buried fittings, so connections should only be made within accessible secondary containment sumps. Connections under dispensers are made utilizing standard class 150 malleable 90 degree elbows or tees, which conform to ANSI B-16.3, or the unique APT 5-way fitting. r__ All rising connections between piping fittings and under dispenser impact valves should utilize schedule 40 rigid metal pipe or stainless steel flexible connectors. Flexible connectors improve installation ease and are recommended at the submersible pump. After completion of the air pressure test on the secondary containment jacket (SC only), the primary pipe fittings can be installed. Since most installations require connections to malleable tees, 90 degree elbows or five way fittings, the threaded male hose shank fitting will be used on most installations. Under-dispenser connections can be partially assembled before being placed in the dispenser sumps to minimize the amount of work which takes place in the dispenser sumps. Using a hacksaw, measure and remove a section of the primary product piping from the center of all intermediate dispenser sumps. On SC installation, relieve the air pressure from the secondary before the section (P ' is removed. Poly-Tech SC provides an easy means for secondary containment retestability. Before installing the swivel connectors, trim back the secondary containment jacket and install the secondary test boots as ® — ® previously described. Test the secondary prior to backfill, leaving the pressure on during backfilling. When testing is completed, loosen the boots, leaving at least 1/4" of clear space. The boot can be reconnected at any time for future testing. Lubricate the inside diameter of the primary product piping and the hose shank on the fitting with liquid soap. Insert the hose shank into the primary product pipe and push it in as far as possible by hand. At this point, a rubber or plastic mallet may be used to drive the hose shank into the primary product pipe. Insert until the end of the pipe is against the pipe stop. Coat the threaded portion of the connector with petroleum resistant pipe sealing compound and screw into the tee, 90 degree elbow, five way fitting, / etc. Be sure to tighten all connections securely. Install a rigid riser pipe or flexible connector between the tee, 90 degree elbow, five way fitting, etc., and install the impact valve at the top. Female Style 1- Place connector into primary pipe until pipe contacts shoulder stop. 2- Place split clamp over primary pipe, locking groove into position, and finger O tighten (4) nuts. Testing Primary After all high pressure pipe clamps have been installed and tightened, tighten the check valve in the submersible pump and close impact valves. Remove the test plug from the impact valve and attach the air line with the gauge and test to at least 60 psi while soaping all connections. Do not exceed rated working pressure of 100 psi. I Check local codes for duration of primary product pipe air test. ;F During primary product pipe air test, all secondary containment air test boots should be slid forward, away from the secondary containment jacket terminations. A clear space of at least 114" is required to allow free flow of liquid through the entire secondary containment system. As a final step, if required by local authorities, cover the Poly-Tech pipe in the dispenser sump with a minimum of 4 inches of pea gravel. It is recommended that electronic liquid sensing leak detection be installed in the lowest sump in the system. Backfill with pea gravel or clean sand, covering the piping to a minimum of 6 inches. Poly-Tech D and Poly-Tech SC must be installed in strict accordance with all applicable Federal, State, and local regulations. NOTE. The following provisions of the sign ordinance have not been met. 1. Part 17.40.030 G states that"no signs erected or maintained in a window of a building, visible from any public or private street or highway, shall occupy more than 20% of the window surface". 2. Part 17.40.080 E. The second paragraph states"one banner sign" is permitted in addition to three signs and one"A"board allowance. A banner sign is defined as "a strip of durable fabric on which a sign is printed"; paper or reinforced cardboard type signs are prohibited. A banner sign shall be fixed in place and shall not exceed 8 square feet in size, shall be maintained in good condition, and shall meet all applicable general requirements of Chapter 17.40. On a visit to the site it appears that the signs placed in the windows of the Burger King facility exceed the 20% window limit. There are two large banner signs applied to the fence of the west side of the building adjacent to the drive through. Each of these banner signs exceeds the allowable 8 square feet in area. Because of the conditions listed in the sign ordinance I must require that Burger King take immediate steps to bring their miscellaneous signage into compliance with the sign ordinance. Verify that signage located in the windows does not exceed the 20% limit and remove any signs that do exceed that area. Remove any banner signs that exceed the 8 square foot area and limit the display of banner signs to one such sign.
