Board of Trustees' Meeting
March 11, 2024 9:00 AM
Board of Trustees Attendees: Alethea Fleming, Briana Alzola Lindquist, Nancy Fisher-Allison,
John Shafer, Courtney Orrock
Library Attendees: Trish Wilson, Stacy Paull, Jeff Vogel
Absent: Sidney Brady, Michelle Hanna, Diana Farnsworth
Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 9:00 AM by Courtney.
Approval of Minutes
Minutes from the February 2024 meeting were approved. Motion for approval by Alethea and
seconded by John.
Welcome to new board member Briana!
Internal Updates
Trish
- March programs are running well. Very excited for DW. Ulsterman program this
week which we are anticipating will be packed.
- Craft workshop on 3/27 to make journals out of book covers.
- Working to align programming better with Childrens to follow themes.
- Working on a Rotary grant for mobile workstation for librarians.
- Trish participated in the Polar Plunge 3/9 to represent the library.
Jeff
- Janna will be resigning in April so will be hiring new library assistant
- Erica out on medical leave
- Brian Tibbits also out, so having to fill gaps for page-ing.
- Underwood quote is almost done, hoping by end of month for the Teen Area. May
include remodel to Children's Desk to include Teen Librarian.
- Jazz walk very successful.
- Adventure day was VERY successful.
- All of the managers will be attending the ALA conference in June in San Diego.
- Jeff will be on creative district steering committee meeting later this month.
- County-wise library system is still in progress. Mount Vernon won't be able to do an ILS
migration until 2025 so currently planning on bringing Anacortes on then as well so we
can plan for 2025 budget. Jeff has council Library committee meeting 3/28.
Stacy
- Working more closely with other Youth Services Librarians within Skagit. Will be
participating in Skagit Youth Reads. Current tentative plan is to kick off with Lucky Diaz
(performer/author) in May.
- Family place programming kicks off in May
- Boat naming contest is still collecting votes through the 23rd
- Upgrades to activity room with shelving soon, and hopefully new paint later.
- Summer Reading working closely with Diana in teens, doing a modified summer camp (2
hours 3 days in a row) with teen volunteers.
- Will be doing some book shifting upcoming to better place the non-fiction.
- Still working on Code of Conduct (recently revised to include visuals, increased clarity).
Will bring to board for final approval.
- Also revising Children's Library Policy Document to make sure that kids can better
understand it.
Partnership Updates
Foundation
- 2024 officers were elected (same officers as 2023). Debbie Aldrich is remaining
president. Treasurer, Asst Treasurer and Secretary also remain the same.
Friends
- Their monthly meeting is later this week so Nancy will send an email post that meeting
with a summary.
- Raffle from Adventure Day was very successful as was the Feb 24t" Book Sale.
Manieri/Maritime— Maritime is working on new shelving (wood to replace acrylic). Maniere as
stated in Jeff's update.
New Business:
- This is Nancy Fisher-Allison's last Board meeting as she is transitioning to leadership
within Friends with the intention of relieving Hal from Treasurer responsibility.
- For new candidate for the Board we will need to re-open the position, but Jeff/Courtney
agreed it would be worth reaching out to one specific candidate from November's pool
that was a strong candidate and encourage that person to participate again.
- Board slate proposed for onset May 2024 with Courtney remaining as president,
Alethea as vice—president, and Briana as secretary.
- 2nd Thursday of the month at 2 PM is Friends—Courtney will take over attending those
meetings as the Board rep for now and will revisit that role once the Board is back up to
a full 5 members.
