Board of Trustees' Meeting Minutes
January 8,2024 9:00 am

Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 9:01 a.m. by Courtney.
Approval of Minutes
Minutes from December 2023 meeting were approved. Motion for approval by Nancy, second by John.
Manager Updates
Jeff
• The City budget was approved in December.
• There are 9 Board applications to review this week.
Diana (presenting a combined Childrens and Teens report)
• The APL calendar for January has been published and distributed.
• Adventure Day planning continues
• Diana helped Stacy with the Escape Room camp over winter break. It was very well attended and
will be fun to see the results at Adventure Day.
• Mia's storytime on Saturday went well. It was held in the play space, and it went so well that she
may continue doing it there.
• There are no teen space updates from Underwood.
• A new automotive/small engine repair database is coming soon.
• Noon Years Eve was quite popular w1th70+attendees.
• Winter reading with Pelican Bay Books was very popular. Readers decorated penguins for each book
they read.
• Lydia made a new adult display with book reviews.
Trish
• Adult programs are scheduled through April.
• There will be a maritime program this Saturday.
• The craft social is January 20tn
• Hygge Hiatus is January 24tn
• Start Fresh: Organizing for the New Year workshop is January 31"
• Some 2023 statistics:
o We processed 982 ILLs
■ Appx. 5,000 people attended our programs, which included —2,800 in Childrens,
-1,300 adults, and —150 teens
• Gaming and puzzle cataloguing continues. The new ones have been placed near the seed library.
• Tech Services hasjust finished processing the immensely popular Boat books
• The Teen genre swap is still in process and is going well.
• Stacy invited other departments to attend our be featured at a Saturday storytime.
Partnership Updates
• Foundation
o The Foundation approved increasing the NYT online access to include games and cooking.
o The Foundation approved their 2024 budget.
• Friends of the Library
o Nancy: as of the December meeting, the FriendShop is back on its feet with operations and
revenue nearing pre-COVID levels.
o The donor match program was successful. Letters were sent out before Giving Tuesday.
o The FriendShop pricing structure was restructured for simplicity.
o A FriendShop committee was formed.
o New members are bring new energy to the meetings.
o The Booksale on December 19 brought in $540. The FriendShop is now accepting PayPal
and Stripe for payments.
o Jeff will send FOL financial reports for the last few years and their projected income to the
Board.
• Manieri
o The Jazz Walk will be the first weekend of March, 2024.
o Second Sunday continues as usual. The Lecture series is under new leadership for 2024.
Ongoing Business
• Regarding the County-wide library partnership proposal: Burlington is spearheading the project.
Mount Vernon and Anacortes will need to change ILS services to mesh with the other libraries. The
cost is fairly high so Jeff will have to plan carefully for the switch. The good news is that the shared
catalog is already working well with the libraries that are already on board. There are lots of details
to work out but there is room for flexibility as well.
General Board Business
• John will be out of town next month. He will attend the Board meeting virtually.

The next meeting is February 12 at 9 a.m. in the Community Meeting Room.
