THE FENCE SHALL BE <br />MAINTAINED THROUGHOUT THE CONSTRUCTION PERIOD <br />2.FIBER ROLL BARRIERS SHALL CONSIST OF MILLED WOOD OR OTHER NATURAL FIBERS SEWN INTO A <br />CIRCULAR WEAVE FABRIC. PRIOR TO WINTER <br />CONSTRUCTION (1ST OF MAY - 15TH OF OCTOBER, ALL CONSTRUCTION ACCESS POINTS SHALL BE <br />COVERED WITH GRAVEL OR CRUSHED ROCK. FIBER ROLLS SHALL BE PLACED ALONG FULL ACCESS <br />WIDTH AND RETURNED 3 FEET UPSLOPE DURING ALL CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES. FIBER ROLLS MAY <br />BE MOVED DURING ACCESS ONLY AND REPOSITIONED IMMEDIATELY. FIBER ROLLS SHALL BE <br />REPLACED IF THE ROLL DETERIORATES DUE TO CONTINUED REPOSITIONING OR DAMAGE DUE TO <br />ANY CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES <br />8.IF CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITY WILL OCCUR BETWEEN 15TH OF OCTOBER AND THE 1ST OF MAY, <br />DRIVEWAYS SHALL BE PAVED IF THE SLOPE OF THE DRIVEWAY EXCEEDS 10% OR IF THE DRIVEWAY <br />WILL BE USED FOR THE STOARAGE OF MATERIALS OR VEHICULAR ACCESS. <br />9.ALL AREAS OF SITE DISTURBANCE SHALL BE COVERED WITH 2" SHREDDED REDWOOD MULCH OR <br />HYRDOSEEDED FOR WINTERIZATION AS WELL AS AREAS THAT ARE NOT LANDSCAPED AT FINAL <br />GRADING. <br />10.ALL DIRT STOCKPILES AND AREAS SHALL BE COVERED WITH VISQUEEN AND STAKED/WEIGHTED TO <br />PREVENT MOVEMENT OF BARRIER DUE TO WIND. <br />11.ALL DISTURBED AREAS THAT ARE SLOPED UP TO A 3:1 SLOPE SHALL BE COVERED WITH HYRODSEED <br />AND OR WOODCHIP MULCH. SLOPES EXCEEDING 3:1 SHALL BE FIRST COVERED WITH A <br />BIODEGRADABLE GEOTEXTILE FABRIC INSTALLED PER THE MANUFACTURER'S SPECIFICATIONS AND <br />HYDROSEEDED. <br />12.FILTER FENCE REQUIREMENTS <br />A.SILT FENCE SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED BEFORE UPSLOPE LAND DISTURBANCE BEGINS. <br />B.ALL SILT FENCE SHALL BE PLACED AS CLOSE TO THE CONTOUR AS POSSIBLE SO THAT WATER WILL <br />NOT CONCENTRATE AT LOW POINTS IN THE FENCE AND SO THAT SMALL SWALES OR DEPRESSIONS <br />WHICH MAY CARRY SMALL CONCENTRATED FLOWS TO THE SILT FENCE ARE DISSIPATED ALONG ITS <br />LENGTH. <br />C.TO PREVENT WATER PONDED BY THE SILT FENCE FROM FLOWING AROUND THE ENDS, EACH END <br />SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED UPSLOPE SO THAT THE ENDS ARE AT A HIGHER ELEVATION. <br />D.WHERE POSSIBLE, SILT FENCE SHALL BE PLACED ON THE FLATTEST AREA AVAILABLE. <br />E.WHERE POSSIBLE, VEGETATION SHALL BE PRESERVED FOR 5 FT. (OR AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE) <br />UPSLOPE FROM THE SILT FENCE. IF VEGETATION IS REMOVED, IT SHALL BE REESTABLISHED WITHIN 7 <br />DAYS FROM THE INSTALLATION OF THE SILT FENCE. <br />F.THE HEIGHT OF THE SILT FENCE SHALL BE A MINIMUM OF 16 IN. ABOVE THE ORIGINAL GROUND <br />SURFACE. <br />G.THE SILT FENCE SHALL BE PLACED IN A TRENCH CUT A MINIMUM OF 6 IN. DEEP. THE TRENCH SHALL <br />BE CUT WITH A TRENCHER, CABLE LAYING MACHINE, OR OTHER SUITABLE DEVICE WHICH WILL <br />ENSURE ADEQUATE UNIFORM TRENCH DEPTH. <br />H.THE SILT FENCE SHALL BE PLACED WITH THE METAL STAKES ON THE DOWNSLOPE SIDE OF THE <br />GEOTEXTILE AND SO THAT THE 8 IN. OF CLOTH ARE BELOW THE GROUND SURFACE. EXCESS <br />MATERIAL SHALL LIE ON THE BOTTOM OF THE 6-IN. DEEP TRENCH. THE TRENCH SHALL BE <br />BACKFILLED AND COMPACTED. <br />I.SEAMS BETWEEN SECTIONS OF SILT FENCE SHALL BE OVERLAPPED WITH THE END STAKES OF EACH <br />SECTION WRAPPED TOGETHER BEFORE DRIVING INTO THE GROUND. <br />J.MAINTENANCE - SILT FENCE SHALL ALLOW RUNOFF TO PASS ONLY AS DIFFUSE FLOW THROUGH THE <br />GEOTEXTILE. IF RUNOFF OVERTOPS THE SILT FENCE, FLOWS UNDER OR AROUND THE ENDS, OR IN <br />ANY OTHER WAY BECOMES A CONCENTRATED FLOW, ONE OF THE FOLLOWING SHALL BE <br />PERFORMED, AS APPROPRIATE: 1) THE LAYOUT OF THE SILT FENCE SHALL BE CHANGED, 2) <br />ACCUMULATED SEDIMENT SHALL BE REMOVED, OR 3) OTHER PRACTICES SHALL BE INSTALLED. <br />13.CRITERIA FOR SILT FENCE MATERIALS <br />A.FENCE STAKES - THE LENGTH SHALL BE A MINIMUM OF 32 IN. LONG. STAKES SHALL BE HEAVY GUAGE <br />GLAVANIZED METAL. ON SLOPES, THE TRENCH <br />SIZE MAY BE REDUCED TO 18" WIDE BY 8" DEEP AND FUNCTION SOLELY AS CONVEYANCE <br />STRUCTURES. AT THE LOW POINT OF THE CONVEYANCE TRENCH A DRYWELL MUST BE INSTALLED <br />SIZED TO THE SAME VOLUME AS NOTED FOR THE TRENCH. AN ALTERNATE METHOD IS TO PROVIDE <br />STEPPED TRENCHES WITH STONE BAFFLES THAT ALLOW FOR LEVEL DISTRIBUTION OF THE RUNOFF <br />INTO THE TRENCH. <br />B.INFILTRATION TRENCHES LOCATED INSIDE THE DRIPLINES OF TREES SHALL BE EXCAVATED BY HAND <br />TO HELP ELIMINATE THE POTENTIAL DAMAGE TO THE TREES ROOT BALL. SHOULD TAP ROOTS BE <br />ENCOUNTERED, SPAN THE TRENCH AROUND THE TAP ROUTE WITHOUT DAMAGING THE TAP ROOT. <br />C.INFILTRATION TRENCHES AND DRYWELLS SHALL BE LINED WITH LARGER STONES AT THE PERIMETER. <br /> PLACE GEOTEXTILE FILTER FABRIC OVER LARGER STONES AND THEN FILL 3/4" DRY CLEAN GRAVEL <br />OVER THE FILTER FABRIC FLUSH TO GRADE <br />D.INFILTRATION TRENCHES ALONG DRIVEWAYS SHALL BE INSTALLED IN A SIMILAR FASHION TO DRIP <br />LINE TRENCHES. THEY MUST BE INSTALLED AS CLOSE TO LEVEL AS POSSIBLE. WHERE THE <br />DRIVEWAY IS SLOPED, THE TRENCH WILL ACT AS A CONVEYANCE SYSTEM TO A LARGER DRYWELL AT <br />THE BASE. SLOTTED STEEL DRAINS MAY BE INSTALLED IN STEEP DRIVEWAYS IN LIEU OF THE <br />CONVEYANCE TRENCH. IN THIS CASE THE DRIVEWAY MUST NOT HAVE CROSS SLOPE IN ORDER TO <br />ALLOW ALL THE RUNOFF TO ENTER THE DRAIN. THE DRAIN WOULD THEN DISCHARGE INTO A <br />DRYWELL SIZED FOR THE VOLUME OF THE INFILTRATION TRENCH. <br />15.THE GOAL DURING CONSTRUCTION IS TO MINIMIZE OR COMPLETELY ELIMINATE THE POTENTIAL FOR <br />EROSION AND SEDIMENTATION UNTIL THE FINAL BMP'S ARE INSTALLED AND FULLY FUNCTIONING. IT <br />IS THE CONTRACTOR'S RESPONSIBILITY TO INSTALL, MAINTAIN AND MAKE EFFECTIVE ALL BMP <br />MEASURES TO MAINTAIN THIS GOAL WITH ALL TEMPORARY AND PERMANENT BMP'S. PERMANENT <br />BMP'S ARE SIZED FOR A 20 YEAR/1 HOUR STORM AND IF INSTALLED PROPERLY CAN HELP PREVENT <br />THE DISCHARGE OF DEGRADED RUN-OFF WATER FROM CONSTRUCTION SITES AND COMPLETED <br />PROJECTS.
