DocuSign Envelope ID: 011AAD34-EF48-47BE-BB07-E77DF199C86B <br />RESOLUTION 2099 <br />DESIGNATING AUGUST 26TH AS WOMEN'S EQUALITY DAY <br />WHEREAS, the women of the United States have historically been treated as second-class <br />citizens and have often been denied the full rights and privileges, public or private, legal or <br />institutional, which are available to male citizens of the United States; and <br />WHEREAS, the women of the United States have united to assure that these rights and <br />privileges are available to ALL citizens equally, and <br />WHEREAS, the women of United States have designated August 26th as Women's Equality <br />Day to honor the anniversary of the certification of the Nineteenth Amendment, which <br />culminated a 72-year, non-violent campaign to extend the right to vote to women, and <br />WHEREAS, the women of United States are to be commended and supported in their continued <br />fight for equal rights, <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Anacortes designates August 26th <br />Women's Equality Day, honoring the day in 1920 that American women won their right to vote, <br />as an opportunity to continue to work for equal rights for ALL citizens. <br />INTRODUCED, PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF ANACORTES on this 24th day of August, 2020. <br />LAURIE M.
